He was predeceased by: his parents, Aubrey Lavelle Sr. and Sarah George Carpenter; and his wife Nell. He is survived by: his children, Alyese Baker (Eugene) of Ooltewah, Bill Carpenter (Susan) of Tullahoma and Theresa Flippo (Larry) of Sale Creek; his grandchildren, James Baker (Joy), Laura Beth Baker, Ashley Reneer (Derek), Hannah Lynch (Michael), Will Carpenter (Allison), Clint Carpenter (Misty), Barret Griffy (Cortney) and Ally Griffy; his great grandchildren, Matthew Cartwright, Betty Baker, Seth, Colin Lynch, Audrey, Wesley Carpenter and Carter Carpenter; his sister Gloria Prince of Sacramento, CA; and his sisters-in-law, Carol Carpenter and Pearl Carpenter. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in Mr. Carpenter's memory to the St. Luke Methodist Church, 3210 Social Circle, Chattanooga, TN 37415, to the music program, where Luther was very active in the choir for many years.
