He was predeceased by: his parents, Herschell Ellison and Rita Hughes Gates. He is survived by: his sons, Herschell Clay, Steven Curtis and Joshua Terry Ellison; his sisters, Karen Campbell (Guinn) and Charlene Belvin; his grandson Wesley Clay; and his significant other Karen Russell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
