We are sad to announce that on February 11, 2025, at the age of 84, Shirley Ann Shelmon of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband William "Billy" Shelmon; her parents-in-law, Willie L. Shelmon and Rena M. Shelmon; her brothers, Edward Smith and Carlos Jackson; her close friend Shirley Jennings; and her father Day.
She is survived by: her children, Valerie Jones (Dean) of La Fayette, GA, Janet Shelmon of Lithonia, GA, William Shelmon, Jr. (Bonita) of Lathrup Village, MI, Sharon Govan (Joseph) of Chattanooga, TN and Tamala Shelmon of Chattanooga, TN; her grandchildren, Anita Gowdy (Tommie) of Chattanooga, TN, Marcellus Shelmon (Nascine) of Lithonia, GA, David Shelmon of Lathrup Village, MI, Bryan Shelmon of Lathrup Village, MI, Jamal Govan of Nashville, TN, Christa Shelmon of Los Angeles, CA and Darika Scott of Charlotte, NC; her great grandchildren, Jaila Coker of Dallas, TX, Janae Gowdy of Chattanooga, TN and Micah Shelmon of Lithonia, GA; her siblings, Gregory Holmes (Angie) of Dover, DE, Delores Henderson, Rosa Morgan, Gloria Moorer and Hannah Burton; and her cousin Emma Lee Jones (Gloria Walker) of Chattanooga, TN. She is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 25th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the John P. Franklin Funeral Home (1101 Dodds Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 26th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Greater Second Baptist Church (810 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37411). A burial will be held on Wednesday, February 26th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Chattanooga National Cemetery (1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404).
