He is survived by: his children, Allen B. Burney, Sr. (Vanessa), Nathaniel Shropshire, Jr. (Alesia), James Smith, Alicia Spencer, Tandra Carter and Jackie Gunn; his sister Nellie Shropshire Moore; and his sisters-in-law, Anne Shropshire, Hattie Shropshire and Maeola Shropshire. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
