She was predeceased by: her parents, Theodore R. Stapleton and Helen Jane Carruth Stapleton; her former husband Thomas V. Kirkland; her son Frederick Alexander Kirkland; and her stepchildren, Robert Benjamin and Julie Benjamin.
She is survived by: her husband James P. Benjamin; her son Thomas S. Kirkland (Marie); her stepchildren, Kimberly Beck (Gary), Phillip Benjamin and James Benjamin (Starla); and her cousins, Erin Carruth Warns and Susan Stapleton McLaurin. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
