He is survived by: his brother Don Grimes; his children, Nancy Antoinette Grimes Cogar of Chattanooga, Austin Leo Grimes of Boston and Sean Michael Grimes of New York City; and his grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Thayer, Kathryn, Jacqueline and Barbara Lovenheim of New York City.
