He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Whitaker and Pauline Whitaker; his brothers, Edward, James and Richard; and his granddaughter Shawnna Whitaker.

He is survived by: his wife Marguerite; his children, Doug Whitaker (Angela) of Ooltewah, Mike Whitaker of Ooltewah, Peggy Whitaker (David) of Chattanooga and Patti Haynes (Don) of Hixson; his brother Robert Whitaker (Rose) of Chattanooga; his grandchildren, Mandy, Dougie, Michelle, Matt, Samantha, Nicole, Tanner and Jake; his great grandchildren, Layla, Canyon, Marlie, Noble, Madisyn, Able, Jack, Jacob, Joci and Kai; and his close friends, Don and Nancy Kerschner. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
