He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Spence; his parents, Jack K. Spence, Sr. and Lena May Spence; and his siblings, Jerry Spence and Sandra Shelton.
He is survived by: his children, Diane Cothran (Todd) of Soddy Daisy and Jim Spence (Tonya) of Chattanooga; his grandchildren, Kyle Cothran (Emily) of Hixson, Ashley Hickey (Michael) of Soddy Daisy, Haley Lawson (Josh Lawson) of Hixson, Alex Spence of Chattanooga, Hailey Colburn of Chattanooga and Matthew Colburn of Chattanooga; his great grandchildren, Henry Thomas Cothran and Hannah Kate Lawson; his sister Sue Bradley (Georgia) of Rossville; and his sister-in-law Wilma Martin (Johnny) of Chattanooga. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
