He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Patterson and Louise Patterson; his grandson Christopher Thomas Bell; his niece Vivian Patterson; his nephews, Jesse and Lewis Patterson; and his sisters, Emma Patterson, Geraldine Norman and Maria Mcllwain.
He is survived by: his daughters, Greta Long (Michael), Valerie Patterson, Dethrice (Thomas), Bell and Donna Cole-Joiner (Gregory); and his brothers, Henry Patterson (Annie Mae), Ben (Mia), James Patterson (Jeanette) and John Patterson (Mary). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
