He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley and Myrtle Roberts Abney. He is survived by: his wife Mary Stringer Abney; his children, Tim Abney (Debbie), Debbie Ritter (Tom) and Vickie Ward (Cliff); his siblings, Bill Abney, Dorothy Bishop, Josephine McDonald, Faye Frizzell and Margaret Ballew; and his grandchildren, Marcie, Chelsea, Emily, Sara Beth, Tom, Amy and Cooper. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Due to COVID concerns, the family will have a private graveside service.
