He is survived by: his wife Janet Maffett-Penny; his children, Saundra Payne (Eric), Robin Mayes (Darryl), Quintel Williams (Renee) and Joe N. Maffett, Jr. (Pamela); his grandchildren, Christopher Payne (Jewell), Erica Henderson, Jamiea Ware, Kortney Lewis (David), Jermale Maffett (Sharnae), Payton Maffett and Marcus Williams; his great grandchildren, Mark Harden, Hannah, Tyler Henderson, Chris Jr., Jeremiah Payne, Tania Humphrey, Korianna, Kianna Lewis, Shaynia, Jamarion Maffett, David Powell III, Braden, Brook and Blake Ware; his daughter Karen Thompson; his sister Lucile Bell; his sisters-in-law, Annie Phillips and Nell Clay; and his friend Reverend Paul A. McDaniel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins.
