He was predeceased by: his father Albert Richie; and his son Terry Wayne Russell. He is survived by: his wife Sally D. Russell of Chattanooga; his mother Hilda Russell of Severn, MD; his children, Tanya Russell Utterback of Virginia and Leslie Michelle Gilman (Donald) of Franklin, TN; his brother Gary Curtis Russell (Donna) of Severn, MD; and his grandchildren, Jessica Tryon-Sandoval (Cody), Nicole Morgan Barney, Madison Taylor Linke (Elijah), Joshua David Gilman and Jacob Daniel Gilman. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
