He was predeceased by: his parents, James Albert and Lillie Bell Jones Luna. He is survived by: his sons, Samuel L. Luna, Jr. (Jenny Vaine) and Hunter E. Luna (Montana Sensing); his stepson Timothy Ryan Franklin; and his siblings, Lawrence Luna, Minnie Buchanan (William), Patricia King (Danny), Margie Elaine West, Florence Ramsey, Lula Bell Adams and James Albert Luna, Jr.. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren 1 Great Grandchild Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Foundation.
