She was predeceased by: her parents, James O. Garland and Edith Kathleen Johnson Garland; her husband Walter Bernard Polk; her siblings, Oneda Garland Covington and Bobby Morgan Garland; her former husband Emery Howard "Jocko" Polk; and her stepsons, Clayton B. Polk and John N. Polk.
She is survived by: her children, Ronald C Polk (Nell) of Chapel Hill and Priscilla Polk Hood (Mark) of Chapel Hill, TN; her stepdaughters, Diane Polk Carter and Sheila Polk Holt; her grandchildren, Steven E Hood, Joseph A Hood and Reda Marie Polk; her great grandchildren, Holly, Harrison, Hadley, Harmony and Emersyn Hood; her siblings, Zeneith Garland Cole, Cornelia Garland Jefferson, Dewey and Daniel Garland; and her sister-in-law Doris Polk Kennemer. She is also survived by numerous step grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
