He was predeceased by: his parents, Garland Hitchcock and Sadie Hitchcock Whitt (Walter); and his half-brothers, Steve and Walter Lewis Whitt. He is survived by: his wife Vickie Hitchcock; his children, Joseph Hitchcock, Jr. (Alejandra) and Carol Hitchcock Rozanski (Casey Coble); his grandchildren, Britt McCurdy (Steve), Derek Rozanski, Mary Charlotte Hitchcock and Annie Hitchcock; and his great grandchildren, Laynie Crabill, Kiah McCurdy and Wyatt McCurdy.
