He was predeceased by: his sister Katherine Anne "Kathy" Winfree Wright; and his wife Brenda Elizabeth Gooding. He is survived by: his son Chris Winfree (Angela) of Huntington, Texas; his stepsons, Tracy Richardson of Decatur and Tony Richardson (Amy) of Portland, Tennessee; his siblings, Susan Winfree Carver (James) and Kenny Winfree (Diane) of Birmingham, Alabama; and his brother-in-law Paul Wright.

The family has requested memorials to Knob Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
