He was predeceased by: his parents, Ora Lee Howard Coats and Leslie Renshaw Coats; his wife Wanda Fletcher Coats; his sister Amby Coats Cole; his brother-in-law Milton Cole; and his grandparents, Martha Ellen Harris Howard, William Nicholas Howard, Salona Tanner Coats and Jordan Bernard Coats.
He is survived by: his children, Virgil Fletcher Coats (Joyce) and Carol Leslie Coats; his grandchildren, Jason Fletcher Coats and Jessica Nicole Coats of Burlison; his niece Pam Cole of Brighton; and his nephew Steve Cole (Sara) of Collierville.
Donations to Elm Grove Methodist Church may be made in lieu of flowers.
