He was predeceased by: his parent Odean Scoggins Simpson; his wife Pauline Qualls Simpson; his father James "Jim" Samuel Simpson; and his siblings, Shirley Hill, Joyce Kirby, Rhonda Simpson and Charles Simpson.
He is survived by: his children, Teresa Hood (Ricky) of Brownsville, TN, Vickie Duprel (Mike) of Gadsden, TN, Jeffrey Simpson (Stephen) of Rector, AR and Keith Simpson (Lisa) of Bells, TN; his siblings, Charlotte Nation of Ripley, TN, Belinda Simpson of Ripley, TN and Kenneth Simpson (Marty) of Munford, TN.; and his grandchildren, Richard Hood (Amber), Chelsey Gaters (Justin), Elizabeth French, Logan Garner (Becca), Catie Gilliam (Josh), Blair Gillespie (Bo), Cory Simpson (Autumn) and Cody Simpson. He is also survived by his 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be to the Antioch Baptist Church, c/o Sherri Yanakopulos, 341 Baynes Rd, Brownsville, TN 38012.
