He was predeceased by: his parents, Otis William Hale and Eva Mae Ballard Hale; his wife Joyce Johnson Hale; and his daughter Cherie Hale Parker. He is survived by: his daughter Beth Hale Cathey (Roger) of Oakfield, TN; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Cathey James (Jon) of Humboldt, TN, Christian Cathey, Cannon Cathey of Oakfield, TN and Carson Cathey of San Gabriel, CA; his great grandchildren, William James of Humboldt, TN and Allie James of Humboldt, TN; and his son-in-law James Parker of Jackson, TN. He is also survived by extended family and friends.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
