He was predeceased by: his parents, Waldo E. Haydon and Helen Douglass Haydon; his daughter Leslie Matatics; and his granddaughter Felicity Matatics. He is survived by: his children, Sally Dawson (John), Douglas Haydon (Sharon) and Laurel Parham (John); his son-in-law Gerald Matatics; his grandchildren, Amy Flowerree (Zac), Rachel Dawson, James Dawson (Danika), John Dawson, Annie Dawson, Kristin Holderman (Steve), Charles McLean (Jessie), Haydon Parham, Emilene Parham, Colton Parham, Daniel Matatics (Bri), Christina Matatics, Stephen Matatics (Rachel), Michael Matatics, Peter Matatics, Maria Matatics, Rose Matatics, Anastasia Matatics and Alexander Matatics; and his sister Janice Shurtleff. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Haydon also was brought to Bangkok, Thailand to found the NIDA university by the Ford Foundation.
