He was predeceased by: his parents, JC Canter and Kathleen Surber Canter. He is survived by: his wife Laura Marie Canter; his son Brian Sheffield (Cassie); his stepdaughter Deborah Anna O'Niell; his sister Pat Brenner (Phil); and his grandchildren, Ainseley Sheffield, Cheyenne O'Niell, Savannah Butler, Hunter Chapman, Cruz Adcox and Kannon Key.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Covenant Fellowship Church, 224 Plaza Crossing, Bristol, VA 24201.
