He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaac W. Orfield and Margaret A. Orfield; his wife Evelyn Durham Orfield; and his son James Craig Orfield. He is survived by: his sisters, Frances Dougherty of Bristol and Katherine Broce of Bristol; and his daughter-in-law Dr. DeeDee K. Smart of Washington, DC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and his neighborhood friends.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be a private burial ceremony for family only.
