He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Lee and Mary Grace Lester Thompson; and his siblings, Margaret Snavely and Kenneth Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Bessie Alice Belcher Thompson; his children, Robert Wayne Thompson (Leslie) and Deborah Kay Parks Roberts; his grandchildren, Kayla Tennant (Michael), Rachel Thompson, Bradley Parks and Hunter Roberts; his stepgrandchildren, Jesse Bowman, Zach Bowman and Ally Hyder (Brett); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Adelaide and Theodore Hyder; and his sister Betty Louise Hahn. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
