Emily Grace Bushong Gent Obituary
Emily Grace Bushong Gent, 89, of Bristol, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in a log cabin on the Bushong family farm in Bristol on January 20, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Irene Hood Bushong.
She lived most of her life in Bristol. Emily married Jack Odell Gent on November 21, 1951. They were married for 65 years prior to his death in 2016. During that time she spent 22 years away from Bristol as a career military Wife and Mom. Upon returning to Bristol, they settled back on the family farm. There, Emily lovingly took care of her family. She enjoyed taking care of her home, working in her flower beds, garden, and canning vegetables in the summer and fall. Emily also loved traveling abroad and in country with her husband. She was a devout Christian. She had a strong unshakable belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She did her best to instill that belief into her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and others. Emily was a member of Addilyn Memorial United Methodist Church. If you were blessed to be a member of Emily's family or a friend then you knew what a loving sweet and special lady she was. Emily always put others before herself.
In addition to her parents and her husband Jack, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Ronnie Ingle, brothers, David and Bobby Bushong, sisters, Catherine Gross and Barbara Rosenbaum.
Those left to cherish memories of Emily include her sons, Ray Gent, James Gent and his wife Ruby Musick Gent, grandchildren: Michelle Gent, Glenda Ingle, and Mike Ingle; great-grandchildren: Riley Ingle Broome and husband Andrew, Sydney Ingle, Gavin Ingle, Drake Garland, and Kelsey Summerson Gent; several nieces and nephews, and her special friend and caregiver, Sharon Hopkins.
The family will greet friends to share memories on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 5:00 pm until a celebration of Emily's life at 7:00 pm at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Reverend Ray Amos and Reverend Lloyd Jones officiating. A committal service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at Weaver cemetery in Bristol, TN. Active pallbearers will be Steve Rosenbaum, Mark Bushong, Everett Haynie, PJ Reagan, Steve Musick, Beattie Hearst, Jeff Gross, and John Bushong. Mike Phillippi will be an honorary pallbearer. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 pm on Wednesday.
