He was predeceased by: his wife Alice Ann Hayes; his parents, John Hayes and Viola Hayes; his son Kenneth Hayes; and his siblings, Thomas Hayes, David Hayes, Ruth Hayes and Sue Hayes Hensley.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Davidson, Richard Hayes (Ouida), Laurie Smith (Steve) and Jonathan Hayes; and his brother John Edward "Bo" Hayes Jr. (Lucile). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
