Lois Bernadene Dougan Imboden
Sept. 16, 1923-May 26, 2020
Lois Dougan Imboden, 96, passed into eternal life on May 26, 2020. Born on the family farm near Dysart, Iowa on Sept. 16, 1923, she was the daughter of Jennie Karr and Alfred Dougan. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 67 years, F. Richard Imboden; brother, Paul Karr Dougan; and daughter Barbara Imboden Doi; and survived by her daughter, Jean Vraciu (Bob); son, David Imboden (Cathy); son-in-law, Jim Doi; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Lois graduated from Dysart High School in 1941 and from Iowa State University in 1946 with a major in dietetics and home economics. She pledged Delta Delta Delta and became a loyal lifelong member. Lois was selected for several scholastic honorary societies at ISU as well as the music honorary society. She met her husband, Dick, during college and they were married in Hondo, Tx. in 1943, while he served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After college, Dick accepted a job with the Hormel Co. and during the course of his career, they lived in a variety of places including MN, NE, CA, GA, AZ and TN.
Lois was dedicated to her family and served as an example of the perfect wife and mother. Her mantra was, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” She was a fabulous cook (pies were her specialty) and immaculate homemaker (you could eat off her floors); she was stylish and entertained beautifully. Her faith was strong and she had a very personal connection with God, witnessed by her involvement in Bible study, church, and community wherever they lived. She served as both Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian church. Having a beautiful soprano voice, she sang in numerous select groups. She was a member of the DAR and numerous community organizations. Her other hobbies included bridge, gardening, knitting, golf and travel. She and Dick traveled extensively throughout North and South America and Europe.
She was the Mom everyone would like to have, and lived the philosophy that “at the end of the day, it’s faith, family and friends.”
A family service will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to The Arthritis Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
