He was predeceased by: his parents, James Newton Penix and Wilma Jean Hasty; and his brother Michael Cayce Penix. He is survived by: his wife Melissa Joy Grissim Penix; his children, Jeffrey Stephen Penix (Robyn) and Brian Lee Penix (Renee); his siblings, Linda Gayle Martin and David Alan Penix; and his grandchildren, Jessica Michelle Penix, Anna Joy Penix, Joshua Stephen Penix and Maxwell Lee Penix.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the American Heart Association in Steve's name.
