He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter C. Flatt and Sallie F. Flatt (Jackson); his wife Betty Marie Flatt; his daughter Velinda Flatt; and his siblings, Joe Flatt, Everette Flatt, Noah Flatt, Austin Flatt, Mamie Huddleston, Winnie Bell Allen, Lucille Flatt, Evelyn Karawan and Nannie Lee Kinney.
He is survived by: his children, Gary (Dean Flatt), Randy (Linda Flatt) of Cookeville and Sandra Martin of Baxter; his grandchildren, Troy Flatt, Stephanie Chambers, Bryson Flatt, Jennifer Shah, Lindsey Henley, Jason Garland, Jeff Herd, Brandon Flatt and Sarah Allen; and his brother Jerry Flatt of Michigan. He is also survived by 18 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
In Lue of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
