He is survived by: his children, Heather Boles of Cleveland, TN, Melody Bates of Etowah, TN and Bryan Bates; his grandchildren, Halli Bates, Ashlyn Bates and Hayden Boles; and his siblings, Doreen Bates of Apex, NC, Kay Woodruff of Sweetwater, TN, Nina Rowland of Athens, TN, Mickey Bates of Reliance, TN, Danny Bates of Delano, TN and Ross Bates of Durham, NC. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
