He is survived by: his son Brett; his wife Cynthia Spurling Nelms; his daughter-in-law Callie Nelms; his daughters, Brandi Nelms Roark (Chad Smith) and Sherri Trinkner (Billy); his grandchildren, Tyler Nelms, Macanna Nelms, Whitney Nelms, Erica Berrior, Jillian Hill and Emily Ensley; his brother Rev. William; and his sisters-in-law, Marie Spurling Crook and Joan Spurling Sparks. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and special friend.
