He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Whitman and Nellie Smartt Whitman. He is survived by: his wife Debra Jane Layne Whitman; his brothers, Ronnie, Clay, Elmo and Alfred Whitman; his children, Norma Jean Wanamaker (Jim) and Lewis Ethon Whitman Burns (Sarah); his stepchildren, Jessie Meeks (Jennifer), Jeremy Meeks and Connie Glass (Tim); and his siblings, Larry Douglas Whitman (Vicki), Nellie Forsyth (Roy) and Sue Hageman (Tracy). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 10th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Layne Funeral Home (182 Beersheba St, Altamont, TN 37301). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 11th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, December 11th 2024 at the Bess Whitman King Cemetery.
