He was predeceased by: his father James Sims; and his father-in-law Coy Mauney. He is survived by: his mother Betty Sims; his wife Regina Sims; his children, Marcus Sims Jr. (Jorja) and Jenny Sims; his grandchildren, Reece and Scarlett; and his brother Randy Sims.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make donations in Mark's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
