He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Eugene Dotson and Estella Vashti Vaught; his wife Virginia Jo Westfield Dotson; his siblings, Alva Fields, Rosa Green, Lincoln, Otis, Eugene and Malcolm Dotson; and his grandson Austin Jerel Dotson.

He is survived by: his children, Marquis D. Dotson, Jr. (Alma), Pamela V. Bright (Robert), Taunya Kay Robinson (Anthony), Tyrone Dotson (Lisa) and Walter Dotson (Jill); and his siblings-in-law, Joyce Dotson and James Fields. He is also survived by Fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
