He was predeceased by: his wife Brenda Gayle Morrow Benton; and his parents, George Benton and Ora Dennis Benton. He is survived by: his children, Kelly Mooney (Robert) and Craig Benton (Janet); his grandchildren, Tara Rhea (Eric), Barry Shaver (Katheryn), Brooklyn Massengill, Zack Benton (Barb), Jake Benton and Emileigh Benton; and his siblings, Catherine Womac and James "Jimmy" Benton (Evelyn). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Ziegler Funeral Home (521 W Madison Ave, Athens, TN 37303-3490). A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Clear Springs Baptist Church (653 Co Rd 100, Athens, TN 37303).
