He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Highsmith and Frances Highsmith; his sister Peggy Ann Coleman; and his grandson Rob Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Terry Highsmith (Michelle), Sherrie Johnson, Donna Hayes and Angela Watson (Seth); his grandson Mitch Highsmith (Stephanie); his children, Michael Highsmith (Jessie), Alex Hayes (Savannah), Nicole Dermady (Travis) and Elizabeth Watson; his niece Beth Busha (Nick); and his great-niece Becky Smiley (David). He is also survived by 10 Great Grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, November 29th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Boyd Funeral Home (101 Elizabeth St, Ashland City, TN 37015). A celebration of life was held on Friday, November 29th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
