He is survived by: his wife Janet Gipson Smartt; his daughters, Debora Lind of Crossville, TN and Carla Bridges (Will) of Bellvidere, TN; and his stepson Chad Bess. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
