Ed left this world on September 9, 2024 at the age of 77, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, J. R. Gilchrist and Lois Lane Gilchrist; his siblings, Willie Carolyn Tidwell, Bobby Lane and James Wallace Gilchrist; and his nephew Byron Keith Tidwell.

He is survived by: his cousin Patricia Ann Gilchrist; his niece Sharon Tidwell Brummer; his great-nieces, Abby Tidwell Pittman (Tyler), Carrie Tidwell Davies (Nathan) and Leslie Tidwell Gray (Ashley); and also, Leah Paige Stanfield, Catherine Grace Pittman, Keith Garland Carroll, James Wesley Stanfield and Cooper James Pittman.
