He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil LaPointe and Laura Jones; and his siblings, Edith Bickerstaff, Harold and Curtis.
He is survived by: his daughters, Anna LaPointe (Lisa) of Niobrara and Cecelia LaPointe (Leon) of Niobrara; his wife Carmen LaPointe of Santee; his children, Virgil LaPointe (Nadine) of Columbus, Alicia LaPointe of Santee and Shane LaPointe (Mandy) of Yankton; and his brothers, Pete LaPointe (Marcella) of Santee and Don LaPointe (Diane) of Santee. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
