He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph E. Shaykett and Clara E. Shaykett (Long); his wife Alice Dennis; his children, Judy and Gary; and his children-in-law, Ed Kapsa and Wanda Sudrala.
He is survived by: his daughter Kay Kapsa of Whitewood, SD; his daughter-in-law Claudia Engler Shaykett of Panama City, Panama; and his grandchildren, Patrick Gilmore of Yankton, SD, Shannon Zwetzig (Troy) of Newell, SD, Teresa Larive (Justin) of Hurley, SD, Scott Shaykett (Alison) of Valley Springs, SD, Amanda Shaykett of Fruitdale, SD, Krista Nero (Patrick) of McKinleyville, CA, Megan Beard (Mark) of Johnstown, CO and Stephanie Boyd (Brett) of Keller, TX. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established to the Whitewood Fire and Ambulance Service.
