He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Vavra and Lena Vavra (McHenry); his wife Marilyn; his son Gary; his daughter-in-law Cori; his sister Betty Brandenburg; and his brother-in-law Mervyn Brandenburg.
He is survived by: his children, Gloria of Wessington Springs, Greg (Twila) of Wessington Springs and Galen (Lisa) of Hartford; his grandchildren, Jim Vavra of Wessington Springs, Melissa Vavra of Maine and Shawna Taylor (Nick) of Chester; and his sister-in-law Darlene Kalkbrenner of Minnesota. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
