He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Poppen and Alma Poppen (Albrecht); his former wife Dorothy Petersen; and his siblings, Fred Jr., Paul, John, Caroll and Janice Venzke.
He is survived by: his children, Jim (Stephanie) of Pierre and Jill Harmdierks (Byron) of Broadland; his grandchildren, Bradlee Lund (Cheri) of De Smet and Rebecca Harmdierks of Grand Forks, ND; his children, Nancy Harmdierks of Grand Forks, Skyler Poppen (Alyssa Jeulfs) of Chamberlain, Bryan Harmdierks (Lexie Reilly) of Huron and Reece Poppen (Sarah) of Baltic, SD; his siblings, Lyle Poppen (Audrey) and Joyce Thompson (Marvin); and his great grandchildren, Karrissa Lund, Brooklynn Lund, Austin Harmdierks, Sebastian Purintun and Asher Poppen.
