He was predeceased by: his parents, Hans L. Nelson and Jessie B. Nelson (Pyper); his wife Mary Slavik; his daughter Peggy Lee; and his siblings, Vera Uherka, Bernie, Virgil, Dale, Clayton, Woodrow and Marcene Hakl.

He is survived by: his children, Jeanne Wiebelhaus (Doug) of Mitchell, SD, Greg Nelson (Deborah) of Sioux Falls, SD and Mark Nelson (Shelly) of Sioux Falls, SD.
