He was predeceased by: his parents, Bert Wal and Marie Vander Wal (Nelson); his sister Gloria Zellmer; and his parents-in-law, Delbert Thompson and Marion Thompson.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Vander Wal of Volga, SD; his children, Tamera Englin (Keith) of Bruce, SD, Tim Vander Wal (Jill) of Sanborn, MN, Todd Vander Wal (Sheri) of Volga and Tom Vander Wal (Katy) of Brookings, SD; and his siblings, Darwin Vander Wal and Joyce Carmen. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Rude's Funeral Home (105 W 8th St S, Brookings, SD 57006). A funeral service was held on Friday, March 28th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the First Lutheran Church (337 8th St, Brookings, SD 57006).
