He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Oscar VanderZee and Helena VanderZee (VanWyk); his wife Betty Veenstra of Volga; his children, Karen Knutson (Ron) of Volga, Darrel VanderZee (Carol) of Onalaska, WI, Thelene Tornow (Mike) of Villa Park, IL and Sheila Kruis (Brian) of Albuquerque, NM; his grandson Austin Knutson (Erin) of Volga; his children, Larissa Scherff (Aubrey) of Trent, SD, Mandy Wilde (Isaac) of Volga, Samuel VanderZee of La Crosse, WI, Elijah Tornow (Rose) of Grimes, IA, Leah Tornow of Des Moines, IA, Amber Jones (Aaron) of Albuquerque, NM, Josiah Kruis of Albuquerque, NM, Elizabeth Bell (Jeremiah) of Albuquerque, NM, Ruthann Kruis of Gallup, NM and Eugene Kruis of Albuquerque, NM; and his siblings, Curt VanderZee, Wanda VanderZee, Myra Matanane, Delmar VanderZee and Bernice Kreykes.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23rd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Volga Chapel (217 Kasan Ave, Volga, SD 57071). A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24th 2025 at 9:30 AM at the Christian Reformed Church (412 Kasan Ave, Volga, SD 57071). A burial will be held on Monday, February 24th 2025 at the Hillside Cemetery.
