He is survived by: his mother Janet Gaertner (Holt) of Freeman, SD; his spouse Adell Nielsen; his children, Chad Gaertner (Michelle) of Viborg, SD, Heather Simonsen (Troy) of Bayside, TX, Jenny Ockenga (Tony) of Harrisburg, SD and Rachael Gaertner (Evan) of Vermillion, SD; his siblings, Jennifer Herrboldt (David) of Menno, SD and Grant Gaertner (Tiana) of Oceanside, CA; his nieces, Carmen Taylor and Beth Harmann; and his nephew Nolan. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
