Joan Patterson Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joan Patterson of Vermillion, South Dakota, who passed away on April 5, 2024 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was loved and cherished by many people including: her husband John Patterson; her children, Joan, Susan Jopling (Curt) of Vermillion, Stephen Patterson (Deb) of Salem, Serena Patterson (Monika Grünberg) of Courtenay, British Columbia and Stuart Patterson (Kate Sullivan) of Rockford Illinois; her grandchildren, Lindsay Hovden (Chris) of Yankton, SD, Brady Efting (Alejandra Mesta) of Denver, CO, Casey Efting of Independence, MO, John Budelai Patterson, Sophia Patterson of Salem, OR, Ethan Patterson of Dekalb, IL, Laura Robbins (Andrew Piffer) of Montreal, Tanner Patterson Grünberg of Victoria, BC, Grace Patterson Grünberg of Courtenay, BC, Melissa Allen of Hornick, IA, Dallas Jopling of Vermillion, SD and Dustin Jopling of Sioux Falls, SD; and her great grandchildren, Maddox, Myles, Emma Hovden, Luka Efting, Jack, Hank Jopling and Hannah Allen.

Joan never stopped learning even as she did a long slow dance with Parkinson's Disease that lasted over 30 years.

“Stephen, Serena, Sue, Stu, My deepest sympathy. It's been a long time. Steve and Stu from church camps, Sue visiting Camp Koda, Serena from YC. Your family brought me to Yankton College. Your wonderful parents were very influential in my life. I am very grateful to have Blessed by knowing you all!. Sue - thank you for all the times you helped me visit Joan.
