He was predeceased by: his parents, Hans Jessen and Tillie Jessen (Pfister); his brothers, Arthur "Art", Darwin "Hice", Raymond "Tiny" and Gerald "Jerry" Jessen; and his son Travis Jessen.
He is survived by: his wife Cathy Jessen of Tulare, SD; his daughters, Melissa Jessen of Aberdeen, SD and Lynail Larson (Doug) of Redfield, SD; his siblings, Rosemary Tubandt (Richard) of Tulare, SD and Arlen Jessen of Tulare, SD; his grandchildren, Zach, Jeremy, Trevor White of Aberdeen, SD, Josh White of Grand Forks, MN, Alison, Breanna Larson of Redfield, SD and Tyler Jessen of Minot, ND; and his great grandchildren, Ruger and Riggz White of Aberdeen, SD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Hyke Funeral Home (101 E 7th Ave, Redfield, SD 57469).
Richard's final act of kindness was to donate his corneas to help others in need.
