He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schmit and Emma Schmit. He is survived by: his wife Jane; his children, Gina Jacobs (Byron) and Ryan Schmit (Lisa); his grandchildren, Tyler Jacobs, Hannah Schmit, Tanner Jacobs, Isabel Ghanoo (Stephen), Kendra Jacobs, Olivia, Liara, Jack and Sofia; and his siblings, Helen and Glen.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 28th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Messiah Lutheran Church (48458 240th St, Flandreau, SD 57028). A memorial service was held on Friday, March 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The inurnment was held on Friday, March 28th 2025 at 12:10 PM at the Highland Cemetery (48440 249th St, Garretson, SD 57030).
