She was predeceased by: her parents, Dick DeRuyter and Lena DeRuyter (Kooistra); her former husband Allen Franken; her grandsons, Ryan Schmuck and Brian Poppens; her great grandchild Eirinn Donnelly; and her siblings, Gert Van Engen (Dick), John DeRuyter (Margaret), Spark DeRuyter, Mary Gunnink (Pete), Rich DeRuyter, Nellie Schoonhaven (John) and Gerrit DeRuyter.
She is survived by: her husband Edwin Poppens; her children, Lori Lou Taubert, Luverne, Kevin Jay Franken of Robbinsdale, MN and David Dean Franken (Shelly); her stepchildren, Janice Schmuck (Al), Gordan Poppens (Lynn), James Poppens, Sharon Poppens, Sioux Fall and Kathy Day of Georgetown, TX; her grandchildren, Seth Taubert, Matthew Taubert (Morgan Johnson), Andrew Schmuck (Nicolette), Jennifer Poppens (Taylor Maegaert), Nicole O'Neal (Dan), Daniel Poppens (Blair), Dustin Poppens, Kristin Poppens, Adam Poppens, Samantha Gier (Gabe), Makayla Olson (Zach) and Gavyn Olson; her sister Carol Hill (Richard) of Fort Worth, TX; and her sisters-in-law, Shirley DeRuyter, Linda Wissink (Rich), Fran DeRuyter and Arlis Poppens.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 15th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (305 W 1st Ave, Lennox, SD 57039). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 16th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Children's Inn, Sioux Falls or Gideon's International.
