He was predeceased by: his parents, Carroll Atkins and Ann Atkins (Buus); his daughter Michelle Maynor; and his brother Darwyn Atkins. He is survived by: his wife Jerene Heinssen; and his children, Sharon Metzger, Cindy Atkins, Charles Atkins (Lori), Carol Atkins, Stewartville and Brian Atkins (Lisa). He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Saint Nicholas Youth Group are preferred.
